My 1st (and only!) Half Marathon
On August 23 I, Min, ran a half marathon!!! I even finished earlier than I thought I would! Thanks to Nate and KT giving us a place to spend the night, I was able to get a pretty good sleep. Nate then took me to the finish line where we boarded a bus and headed up the Canyon. Thanx Nate for all the great words of advice and just talking to me to calm me down. I was a lot more relaxed for this race than I was for the Wasatch Back.
The race started up Blacksmith Fork Canyon at the Hyrum Electrical Plant. We got a bit of a late start so it felt like forever that we were all lined up ready to go. They finally started the race and I walked for the first little bit, and then I finally saw the start line! I even remembered to start my Garmin!
The course was a really fun course. It was a very gently sloping downhill most of the way. The weather was perfect running weather and I felt really strong the whole way. I didn’t even have to get water at most of the pit stops! I got a little nervous at about mile 10 because I started feeling like I couldn’t push it anymore, but I gutted it out and three miles later, I was done. I even found enough energy to sprint past the finish line! Ok, so I probably wasn’t sprinting, but it sure felt fast to me!!
My official time was 2:01:38 and I placed 87th in my age group. I was really hoping I would beat 2:20 so I was really pleased with my time. I was even more pleased when my legs were sore for a few days. That’s when you know you’ve really done your best. I am really glad I did this, and would recommend it to anyone!
This is me after I was finished. My smile is so forced because I was using all my energy on standing up!
Nate and I waiting around for him to get his trophy. He got 2nd place in his division. Way to go Nate!!!
