It has been 3 weeks and counting…
…since I’ve driven our Jeep.
As a family we determined this summer to ride our bikes everywhere we could. Gas prices are crazy. We have driven our van to Lagoon this last week (we’ll post a blog entry about that, it was amazing) and to Dave’s lacrosse game the week before, but we’ve done just about everything else from our bikes. We’ve gone grocery shopping carrying our expedition backpacks and a bike trailer, we’ve walked to church, we’ve visited friends and neighbors on bike. In all aspects, we’ve been very diligent.
It has been an economical savings for us to avoid driving, it has been good for us physically, it is environmentally good; but more than that, it has been a fun bonding experience for us as a family. In a car, you are at your destination immediately or close to it. On bike, a simple errand may take 20-30 minutes of travel time. I can’t think of much that could be better.
I guess there is a good side to crazy gas prices.
As a side note, this blog will be rather quiet for the next week as we’re going to be on holiday. We’ll post about it when we can.
