Millburn Mountain Home
We had a wonderful 4th of July holiday. The Skinner family (good friends of ours here in Kamas) invited us to go spend the weekend with them at a “cabin” owned by Marianne’s Father. I say “cabin” because it is far above and beyond my image of a cabin. It was a very wonderful place and we had a blast. Marianne’s Father who is currently serving as a Mission President has asked the Skinner’s to be the care takers of it while they were gone and we became beneficiaries of their assignment.

The trip began on July 4th. We met at the Oakley City 4th of July parade, we collected way too much candy, watched Brinci reluctantly participate in the parade and headed up the Weber Canyon to the Millburn Mountain Home.

Once there, we unpacked and got the tour of the place. Min’s Mother would have vehemently approved of the decor in the home. It was all bears capped off with a bear skin rug sporting a menacing looking head still attached!
Shortly after we arrived, Joseph, the kids (both theirs and ours), and I went down to the reservoir that the Millburns owned to feed the fish. The kids had a wonderful time feeding the very hungry and willing fish which would come to the top of the water to snatch the food that was thrown. After feeding the fish, the kids decided to pretend to fish. They caught a ton of moss which they referred to as “mudsuckers”. I’m not sure where that name came from, but they enjoyed it immensely and it kept them entertained for a couple hours.
When I finally talked the kids into being done fishing, we made our way back up to the cabin and determined to go for a hike. The Skinners knew of a very beautiful little loop that provided some wonderful views of the surrounding area.

The kids all did wonderful. During the hike one highlight was that I caught a very fun little video of Min. She was under the impression that I was trying to take a picture of her and Gage so she was trying to smile and hold it. The entire time I was taking video instead.
I know, kinda foolish but I really got a kick out of it.
After returning home, we grilled up some hamburgers, and celebrated the 4th of July with some sparklers. At first Brinci and Toby were both a bit unsure whether or not they wanted to play with the sparklers but once they had their first one they were hooked!

Later that night we put the kids to bed and hung out and watched a movie. At about 11pm, we finally hit the sack.
The next morning, Maya had a fever and we just hung out at the home. That too was great except that we all felt badly for Maya. I went out on the deck, sat on a swing and enjoyed my book. While I was outside, the kids watched Peter Pan. Soon it was lunch which we ate and headed home.
We had a wonderful time, our kids got along well with the Skinner’s and it was a 4th of July to remember. We are grateful to have such good friends as the Skinners and enjoy spending time with them.
